Not so Fast
Pride goes before destruction. Proverbs 16:18
Writings from times of antiquity tell of the lore of the strong man Samson. It is written that Samson was the strongest man alive, that had the strength to kill wild beast with his bare hands; kill hundreds of men at a time; and perform feats of strength that astounished all who saw and heard of his legend. However, like all superheroes– he had a weakness. It was written that his strength was in his hair. The longer the stronger.
Well, the physically strong Samson was no match mentally for the beautifully deceitful, Delilah. She had a strength of her own, the power of the tongue and persuasion. She coaxed Samson to tell her his secret. Unbenounced to him, she betrayed him and cut his hair. Without knowing his hair was shaven he went out to defeat his enemies, as usual. Erroneously thinking he still had his superhuman strength, he quickly realized he was mortal: as he was easily captured by his enemy. Now a blind and weak slave, he was made sport by enemy on a daily basis.
But peep this, his enemies kept him captured but failed to keep his hair shaven. They dropped the ball. They fell asleep on the job. They messed up– real bad. Samson’s hair grew back, he prayed for strength and in his death, he killed more of his enemies than he had all the time he was alive.
I say that to say this: do not act too fast. Sometimes we can get cocky and over confident and lose focus; and as a result, have disastrous results that not only only humble us but cripple us spiritually, financially, emotionally, and mentally. Whether it is the carelessness of Samson divulging his secret or the slothfulness of the Philistines who failed to keep their enemy down when he was down: be alert and vigilant for failure is imminent.
Honor. Humbleness. Humility. When we begin to think our gifts and talents are only to profit us; watch them create our demise. When we begin to misuse and abuse our gifts; watch them quickly turn into a curse. When we begin to think that we can because we once did; don’t be surprised when you can’t. When you think that you have arrived because you have conquered a longtime obstacle; it will quickly ensnare you again.
Bottom Line: Be sober. Be vigilant. Do not move too fast. Think carefully about what you do and you will find yourself in less precarious positions. When you are about to do something too fast, remember…”not so fast.”

Humility is somewhat elusive–just when you think you have it, it is at that exact moment that you lose it. Samsons failure was not in his strength but rather in not knowing his weakness. Lust is a formidable foe for any man or woman and when encouraged by a spirit of deception it often achieves death. The best way to consistently defeat lust is a simple no yes orientation. No to lust and yes to all that God has given you the green light to do. Just say no is not easy for individuals who have consistently said yes to lust, but if you will say yes to the Lord he will help you find the stength to say no. It takes humility to admit that the path you are on is the wrong one and that you need help to get on the right one. It also takes humility to daily walk on the straight and narrow path. And so we should pray for Godly wisdom to consistantly walk in humility!
Thanks, that really hit home. Along with the comment, it really makes you look at the path you are on and put things in perspective. I needed that, ONE!
